SC refuses interim bail extension to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. The Supreme Court’s registry declined to hear Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea for a 7-day extension to his interim bail in the Delhi excise policy case, citing medical reasons. Kejriwal’s interim bail, expiring on June 1, coincides with the final phase of Lok Sabha elections. The registry stated that Kejriwal can seek regular bail from the trial court, rendering his plea inadmissible.

Kejriwal petitioned the Supreme Court, attributing his deteriorating health partly to the negligence of jail authorities.

He emphasized weight loss as a concerning symptom and sought an extension of his bail by another week for a comprehensive health evaluation. Kejriwal stated he used his interim bail for campaigning, limiting his access to medical care, with only a home health check-up by a Max Hospitals physician.

The Supreme Court declined an urgent hearing for Arvind Kejriwal’s bail extension plea, deferring it to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.

Kejriwal’s bail, granted on May 10 for campaigning in the Lok Sabha polls, requires him to surrender in Tihar jail by June 2.

The court imposed restrictions, barring him from the Chief Minister’s office or commenting on the case. Kejriwal faces arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy.
